BIONOVA founded in 2002, is Greece's leading privately funded biotech consulting and publishing company, which actively supports knowledge dissemination and innovation transfer in the field of biosciences, in South-Eastern Europe.

Since 2007 BIONOVA has been churched by the Greek General Secretariat of Research & Technology as the National Contact Point (NCP) for Greece for the 7th European Framework Program Thematic Priorities 'Health' & 'Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology' (2007 - 2013).

As Greece's NCP for the 7th European Framework Program, BIONOVA provides the Greek scientific and research community (through its website: www.ncp-bionova.gr, conferences, workshops, training seminars, one to one meetings etc) all the appropriate information including in-depth consulting service, technical & administrative support and partner matches in order to succeed in EU-funded scientific projects and networks.

BIONOVA, already participates in 4 EU-funded projects: 1) Project «RADICAL» of the thematic priority ICT as the coordinator 2) The Project «Health NCP NET» of the thematic priority Health as a partner 3) Project «KAPPA» of the thematic priority Health as a partner 4) Project «Bio NCP NET» of the thematic priority Bio as a partner.

In 2005 BIONOVA was appointed the sole private contractor for the program of Technology Transfer (Biosciences) by the Greek General Secretariat of Research & Technology to link the academic and industrial communities, develop commercially attractive intellectual property, provide legal assistance, and promote successful technology licensing alliances. For example Bionova contributes to regional development by promoting alliances and technology transfer between highly active research teams as well as with Research Institutes in Greece and investors from all over the world. BIONOVA in order to provide better services to its customers has sign over the last year Memorandum of Understanding with the AgroBiotechnology Institute of Sofia (Bulgaria), Mubarak City for Scientific Research and Technology Applications (Egypt), and China National Biotech Group (China).

In 2002, BIONOVA organized the first International Biotechnology Forum (IGBF 1) in the South Eastern Europe in order to give the regional scientific and business community in- depth cutting-edge knowledge concerning green, white and red biotechnology issues, and technology transfer. The success of the 1st IGBF (more than 2,000 participants/visitors) continued in 2005, 2006 and 2008 with IGBF 2, 3 and 4, under the auspices of all the relevant Greek Ministries and sponsored by leading biotechnology and pharmacology companies (www.igbf.gr).

More than 250 prominent speakers have delivered lectures, including Nobel Prize laureates Prof. R. Zinkernagel, K. Wuthrich and Sir John Martin Evans, politicians, scientists and entrepreneurs, and numerous companies have participated in the big concomitant EXPO.

Furthermore, since 2006 BIONOVA is the founder of the Hellenic Biotech Association, and since the end of 2004, has been a vivid member of the European Association for Bio-industries (EuropaBio - with a total membership of 1.900 SMEs and 80 Corporate Enterprises around Europe-) and the National Representative in Greece promoting the domestic growth of biotechnology innovation and business. In addition, for the period 2006 - 2008, BIONOVA will be serving as an active (with a voting right) Member of the Board of EuropaBio.

Initially BIONOVA's operations kicked off with the publication of BIO the Greece's sole scientific journal dedicated to Biosciences and Biotechnology, which focuses on top of the edge BioScience and its academic and industrial applications. It was followed by the Medicine Journal Med Review, the sole provider of internationally accredited clinical research information in Greece.

In addition, BIONOVA is a member of 'BIC of Attika' (Business and Innovation Center of Attika), full member of the European Network of BICs, is a private, non-profit and non-governmental organization, offering consulting services to private companies, local authorities and parties of the public sector in order to enhance their competitiveness and efficiency.

In 2007, BIONOVA in order to best leverage its NCP and EUROPABIO activities restructured its operations and formed three independent and vertical business units: BioBusiness Analysis/Consulting (3 new services in the pipeline), BioTech Transfer (20 contracts with biotech/pharma companies running), BioScientific Communications/Publications (4 more products in the pipeline). It is also member of the European Federation of Biotechnology, the European Association for the Transfer of Technologies, Innovation and Industrial Information and has also been invited and actively participates in Thessaly Biofuels Platform.
